New Athletics Program at Sandhills
Athletics are back at Sandhills! Women's volleyball, men's basketball, and golf will start this fall. Women's softball and basketball are planned to start in the next few years.
After contests, judging, and considering the College's location on Airport Road and minutes from the Moore Co Airport, the new mascot is the Sandhills Flyers.
This is the second time the school has had intercollegiate athletics. SCC had intercollegiate athletics for a 10-year period ending in the early 1980s.
Sandhills will compete in the North Carolina Community College League. It is in Region X and will compete against teams from two-year colleges in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. SCC will not be offering athletic scholarships at this time.
Funding to support the programs will come from student fees and private donations.
