Sandhills Community College students, alumni, faculty and staff recently volunteered two days to help build houses for Habitat for Humanity. Professor Ed Spitler, Alumni Association President and coordinator of the Engineering and Surveying Technologies program at the college, organized the event.
Students from the Student Government Association and the ACES Club (Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Surveying) came out in full force to not only volunteer their time and youthful energy for a good cause but used the housing project as a learning lab.
The SCC Alumni Association and Sandhills faculty and staff also participated in the House Build in Carthage. It was very successful and organizers hope to make it an annual event.
Habitat for Humanity of Moore County started building houses in 1988. Since that time, they have built over 130 homes for families in need of affordable housing in Moore County. To volunteer, call Judie Wiggins at 295-1934.
