Students in the Turfgrass Management Program at Sandhills Community College placed second and third in the Collegiate Turf Bowl Competition at the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendent’s Association Conference. The Turf Bowl challenged students to identify turfgrasses, diseases, weeds, insects and other turf-related problems.  The student competition used the same format at the popular TV show, Jeopardy. Each college entered two teams. One of the Sandhills’ teams came in second to Clemson in the final round and the other team placed third. NC State University, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Central Piedmont C.C., Wayne C.C, Brunswick C.C. and Cawtaba Valley C.C. also participated in the competition. Pictured are left to right: James Knick, Team One Captain; Mike Ventola, Program Coordinator/Instructor; Calvin Graham, Team Two Captain; and George Thompson, Instructor.
